Letter from a Newark Art Teacher

“Making Art for the sake of living bigger, brighter lives, breeds desire and innovation in our children. With these two impulses working hand in hand they can create solutions in their lives. Art is a means of creating peace in our lives.” – Karma Cloud, Lincoln School, Newark.

What is the Newark Arts Parade?

The Newark Arts Parade is the largest artistic collaboration in the city, including hundreds of Newark youth and dozens of schools creating giant “Animodule” sculptures to celebrate creativity and arts-in-education.  Now in its third year, the Parade is underwritten by the Newark City Council, the Newark Public Schools, and the Newark Arts Council. Giant “Animodule” sculptures are on display at Newark Central High School, the Newark Early College High School, the YEES Alternative Education Center, the Newark Boys Chorus School, and the Greater Newark Conservancy.  New “Animodules” are currently being created at Essex County Vocational High School and the Belmont Runyon School, with plans to create additional “Animodule” art works throughout the Newark Public School system.
